Dr. Daniel Ngui

Clinical Professor, UBC Dept Family Medicine, Medical Director Fraser Street Medical

Dr. Daniel Ngui is a family physician and medical director for an interdisciplinary group family practice of 7 family physicians, 3 nurse practitioners, a clinical pharmacist and chronic disease team with a chronic disease nurses at Fraser Street Medical in Vancouver.

He is a clinical professor with the UBC Dept of Family Medicine involved in teaching associated with St. Paul’s hospital. He is co-chair for the St. Paul’s CME program which has an annual attendance of around 1500 clinicians.

He is involved with national physician organizations developoing medical education and knowledge translation initiatives and he speaks at the local, regional, and national level.
He has been involved with the development of clinical practice guidelines with the BC guidelines and the Canadian Cardiovascular Society. He is a Co-editor for Primary Care Today! which is a national family physician journal focused practical and EBM tips to guide clinicians on the most up to date primary care management.

Dr. Jia Hu

Public Health Physician and Family Physician

Dr. Jia Hu is a family physician and public health and preventive medicine specialist. He is currently the CEO of 19 To Zero, a not-for-profit focused on public health behaviour change such as increasing vaccination rates or cancer screening rates. He is also an adjunct professor at the University of Calgary and a medical director with Cleveland Clinic Canada where he advises large companies on health and wellness topics ranging from pandemic preparedness to mental health and preventative health.

Dr. Anna Blakney

Assistant Professor, PhD, PEng

Dr. Anna Blakney is an Assistant Professor and Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in the Michael Smith Laboratories and School of Biomedical Engineering at UBC. She received her Bachelor of Science in Chemical & Biological Engineering from the University of Colorado at Boulder, and her PhD in Bioengineering from the University of Washington. She completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Imperial College London on the development of molecular and biomaterial engineering strategies for delivery of self-amplifying RNA. Her lab uses bioengineering, molecular biology and immunology approaches to develop the next generation of RNA vaccines and therapies. She is also a passionate science communicator and runs a TikTok channel dedicated to educating the public about RNA biotechnology, which now has >250,000 followers and >18M views.

Fairuz Siraj

Dr. Fairuz Siraj is a 2019 doctor of pharmacy graduate from the University of British Columbia. Now a certified diabetes educator and staff pharmacist at Pharmasave in Victoria BC, Fairuz empowers patients through personalized diabetes and migraine consultation services. He’s a recipient of the 2021 BC Pharmacy Association New Practitioner Award and the 2022 Pharmacy Practice and Business Rising Star Award. Dr. Alimohamed is a Medical Oncologist at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre, Calgary, AB as well as a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Calgary. She is involved in all levels of undergraduate, postgraduate, and continuing medical education and is the Program Director for the Medical Oncology training program in Calgary. Dr. Brian Conway

MD, FRCPC ​ Medical Director of the Vancouver Infectious Diseases Centre

Dr. Brian Conway is the president and medical director of the Vancouver Infectious Diseases Centre as well as an adjunct professor on the faculty of Health Sciences at Simon Fraser University. Dr. Conway is a infectious diseases specialist who received his medical degree from McGill University and completed his internal medicine residency at the Royal Victoria Hospital. He then completed fellowships in infectious diseases at the University of Manitoba and in HIV/AIDS at Harvard University. Dr. Conway’s efforts in the advancement of healthcare have been awarded with the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal of Recognition for significant contribution to the field of HIV/AIDS and vulnerable populations in Canada. He was also awarded the title of Elimination Champion in 2020 by the Coalition for Global Hepatitis Elimination.

During the COVID pandemic, he became recognized as “uncle Brian”, for his frequent media appearances (in both official languages), provincially and nationally, to explain the news of the day in a clear and informed way, to reassure British Columbians and to help them make the best decisions possible to deal with the pandemic. His research work (which is ongoing) helped identify barriers to COVID vaccination in the inner city and how to overcome them.

Carlene Oleksyn

Pharmacist and Pharmacy Owner

Carlene Oleksyn has been a pharmacist for over 25 years. She is both a CDE and holds the Certificate of Travel Health from the International Society of Travel Medicine. Her practice has been featured in Pharmacy Business magazine as a leading edge practice and in the Canadian Foundation for Pharmacy as a practice innovator. In 2021, Oleksyn was named the M. J. Huston Pharmacist of Distinction for her continued leadership and advancement of the profession.
